Final Exhibition - Evaluation

It's all done...tomorrow is the opening of the final exhibition and everything is in place.

I have been ambitious with the concept, scale, range of skills and processes learned and resources used in achieving my final major project. I have worked very hard and have achieved what I set out to in sections 1 – 4. I have even included some digital skills - taking poetry text into photoshop and 'pinching' it to look like winding pathways and adding a qr code to my scenario that links to my blog so people can read more about it if they are interested!

My project developed organically as I worked in a very methodical manner, with experiments and research informing each stage of the development of my final piece. I have changed direction many times as my experimentation and research demanded. This has improved my practise as an artist. From the ‘Eureka’ moment when I realised that the book had to be one of the seeds, to the gallery informing me that the seeds couldn’t be suspended from the ceiling, then changing their mind again, I have faced many challenges which I have successfully overcome .

There are further changes I would make if I had more time. Now the installation is complete, I can see that one of the seeds should be germinating or “putting down roots” to fulfil the project title. I would also have liked to be able to create more drama with strong lighting casting shadows, but there is too much natural light at the venue for this to be effective. If my seed pods hadn't taken so long, then I could have spent more time making my artists book neater and more precise.

After a week of sleepless nights, I am a little over-emotional and am feeling very sad that my foundation course has come to an end, but I am very proud of what I have achieved and very grateful to the excellent tutors Sian, Kath and Dave, who have supported me on this fabulous journey.

Having said that, I can't wait to start my next adventure at Cardiff Metropolitan University studying the Artist Designer: Maker degree, where I am hoping to learn the skills and craftmanship required to get into garden sculpture, but let's just see where the journey takes us...
